The Blackwood Basin Group is a non-profit, community-based organisation that coordinates environmental management within the Blackwood River Catchment. Our aim is to work with the community and landcare zones to manage landcare issues and to maintain a balance between environmental protection, cultural diversity and economic productivity in the Blackwood.

We offer a range of services, run regular practical and informative workshops, assist landholders in obtaining landcare funding and provide a vast resource centre for all things relating to landcare and natural resource management.

Our friendly team is extremely flexible and enjoy a challenge, so please call in to discuss landcare project ideas or problems that you would like to tackle. You can find us in the BBG Office at 3360 Boyup Brook – Cranbrook Road, Tonbridge WA 6244 or call us on 0491 373 589.

Sustainable Agriculture

Working alongside farmers nurturing our natural assets and connecting a functional and sustainable growing future.

The Blackwood River region is an area of prime agricultural land that supports multiple industries from vineyards, tourism and olive groves to beef, sheep and cropping operations. The Blackwood Basin Group (BBG) works with landholders of all sizes and backgrounds in caring for land and water sources on their property to create a resilient and ecologically sound farming system.

The BBG works collaboratively with local farmers and landholders to offer workshops, field days and trials packed with information and practical tools that can be applied on-farm. Our events cover all aspects of soil health and feature relevant topics such as on-farm monitoring, climate change, carbon farming, stubble retention alternatives and biological farming. Our extensive network means we can keep you up-to-date on the current soil health trials, exciting upcoming events and projects both locally and around the region.

To be a part of the BBG Sustainable Ag network dedicated to learning about a sustainable farming future please contact our office or call 0491 373 589.

Community Engagement

Fostering a love and care for our environment through understanding and involvement

Our community engagement program seeks to involve people of all ages in learning, participating and interacting with nature. Throughout the year, the BBG team run a series of educational workshops and field days across the catchment, often in partnership with other Landcare and community groups in the Blackwood. We can tailor these to the interests of the community, so please get in touch to tell us what you want, and we will do our very best to meet your needs.

We work with school groups too! Educating our future generations about the importance of looking after our environment is a high priority for the BBG. Over the past 4 years, we’ve conducted a number of school planting days, half day excursions and incursions at local schools. These are run as part of our projects, and often in partnership with service providers such as the Bridgetown Camp School, Greenbushes Discovery Centre and Talison Lithuim Mine, Greenbushes Operation.

Contact us to see how we can involve your school in our project activities. Our monthly e-news has all of our events and project activities, as well as those coordinated by our partner groups. Our monthly e-news is coming soon to make sure you don’t miss a thing!
